Craving during pregnancy is already given. It means that looking for strange foods is common due to hormones. All we can do is to find means on how we can solve and adjust to it without jeopardizing the nutrition needed by a pregnant mother.

These are some helpful tips and guidelines on how to incorporate cravings to a balance diet. Trying these guidelines can help sustain nutrition during pregnancy.

First is to never skip breakfast. And we all know that breakfast is the most important meal in a day. It is the time we will get our energy for the whole day activity. Missing out eating breakfast can increase more cravings later in the day. And this means, the more we crave, the more risks we have in not achieving a balanced diet.

Next is by eating plenty of complex carbohydrates such as whole-wheat breads, brown rice, whole-grain cereals, and pasta. It takes longer for complex carbohydrates to digest therefore making level of blood sugar steady. Inconsistency in blood sugar can cause more cravings.

The third one is by integrating these cravings into nutritional diet. Having a slice of banana or strawberry on an ice cream is one best idea. Trying chocolate milk instead of chocolate is another good suggestion. The only word is integration or mixing up together to come up with nutritious foods.

Lastly, indulge the cravings into a healthy one. Look for alternatives. Substitute non fat yoghurt for ice cream and pretzels for chips. And the most important thing is to include exercise in the daily routine. Physical activities plus complete nutrients will not only lessen cravings but more importantly reducing the possible risks of pregnancy.

It is not bad not to let ourselves give in to these cravings as long as we get the proper nutrition needed by ourselves and most especially our babies. It is also good once in a while to satisfy our yearnings for these strange foods but only once in awhile. Then follow the above mentioned steps and surely all pregnant women will have no hard time.

It is still a big question why there are certain strange behaviors that occur during pregnancy. One of these is different crave for food. A pregnant woman usually looks for strange foods that usually are out of season or even tastes differently. It is such mind blowing especially for the husbands to guess, detect and search for these foods. Despite the fact that there is no agreed-upon explanation for these but food cravings are extremely common during pregnancy.

There are foods that pregnant women can’t just seem to fit in their stomach. It may even cause some vomiting and dizziness. But there are also foods that the mouth can’t get rid of. Experts explain that these food cravings are just normal due to raging hormones. This is also similar when we desire certain foods during our menstrual cycle. This is all because of hormones. However, what makes this alarming is when these cravings are too strong and can place pregnancy nutrition into risk.

There is no problem if the cravings are healthy foods such as milk and fruits. The dilemma starts when high calorie, high fat and high sugar foods such as chocolate hot fudge is on top of the list. Giving in to these cravings and eating only one kind of this food may lead to nutrient deficiency. The best way to battle this is to practice mind over matter on occasion. Another one is by rewarding one self. Let’s take an instance of eating apple over a candy bar. After surpassing it, get yourself a reward. You can compensate yourself with a pedicure, a new shirt or a pregnancy magazine. Practicing this scheme will make your cravings less intense.

Nutrition is the top priority during pregnancy. It is very encouraging to all the family members especially the husbands to help their wives surpassed this stressful stage. As it comes naturally due to hormones, we can always help divert these cravings into some other things. But more importantly, nutrition should never put to risk.
